Kinetics and cyclability of limestone (CaCO3) in presence of steam during calcination in the CaL scheme for thermochemical energy storage

In the present work, we explore use of steam in CaCO3 calcination step Calcium Looping process devised for thermochemical energy storage (CaL-TCES). Steam produces a double benefit: firstly, it fastens calcination, allowing reduction temperature needed to attain full short residence times, as those required practice, resulting savings. This behaviour is justified on basis kinetics study results obtained from non-parametric kinetic analysis, which demonstrate that presence during can reduce apparent activation 175 kJ/mol 142 with steam’s partial pressure 29%. addition, multicycle CaL-TCES tests show alleviates deactivation sorbent, one main limiting factors this technology. explained terms effect microstructure regenerated CaO. Importantly, values residual conversion attained by calcining are higher than without steam.
